A new wave of faith-based apps is aiming to help users strengthen their spiritual lives by blending religious themes with artificial intelligence. One of the most talked-about tools, Text With Jesus, allows users to send questions to an AI-generated representation of Jesus and receive responses that often include related Bible verses. Premium features even expand the experience to conversations with other biblical figures.

The app is part of a broader surge in digital religious tools, which some observers describe as a “digital awakening.” Other platforms, such as bible.ai and EpiscoBot, offer similar AI-driven ways to explore scripture or receive spiritual guidance. The trend comes at a time when nearly 30% of Americans say they have no religious affiliation and when thousands of churches face closure.

Developers say the tools are intended to enhance curiosity and expand access to faith-based content. However, critics raise concerns about relying on AI for spiritual matters. Some worry that the technology could blur lines between authentic religious practice and algorithm-generated interpretation. Religious leaders also caution against losing human connection or misinterpreting sacred texts.

Supporters say the apps can serve as supplements for exploring faith, but not replacements for traditional spiritual practice.
