Brazil’s former President Jair Bolsonaro was admitted to hospital on Tuesday after experiencing health complications, his family confirmed. His eldest son, Senator Flávio Bolsonaro, said on social media platform X that his father had been suffering from persistent hiccups, vomiting, and low blood pressure. “I ask for everyone’s prayers so that it is nothing serious,” he wrote.
Michelle Bolsonaro, the former first lady, also shared an update on Instagram, saying her husband underwent medical tests and was being treated with intravenous medication. “Everything will be all right!” she reassured supporters.
Bolsonaro, who served as Brazil’s president from 2019 to 2022, has faced recurring health issues since being stabbed during a campaign rally in 2018. The attack left him with abdominal injuries that have required several surgeries in the years since.
His hospitalization comes at a time of continued political scrutiny. Bolsonaro is currently facing multiple legal challenges in Brazil, including investigations related to alleged coup plotting and his conduct while in office.
No further details have been released on the length of his hospital stay or his current condition, but his family has indicated that doctors are closely monitoring his health.
