C.P. Radhakrishnan was sworn in as the 15th Vice-President of India on Friday, September 12, 2025. The oath of office was administered by President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan.
The 67-year-old BJP leader secured victory in the vice-presidential election held on September 9, defeating Opposition candidate B. Sudershan Reddy by a margin of 152 votes. His election came after the unexpected resignation of Jagdeep Dhankhar on July 21 due to health reasons. Mr. Dhankhar made his first public appearance since stepping down by attending the swearing-in ceremony.
The event was attended by top leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, and BJP President J.P. Nadda. Former Vice-Presidents Hamid Ansari and M. Venkaiah Naidu also graced the occasion, marking it as a significant political gathering.
Mr. Radhakrishnan, who has served as a two-time MP from Coimbatore and held senior positions in the BJP, now assumes the role of Chairman of the Rajya Sabha. His tenure will be closely watched as he takes charge during a period of heightened political activity and legislative challenges in Parliament.
