Former US President Bill Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton have agreed to testify before the House Oversight Committee investigating links to Jeffrey Epstein.

The decision was confirmed by Bill Clinton’s deputy chief of staff, Angel Urena, who said the couple would comply despite accusing the committee of acting in bad faith. He stated that the Clintons had already shared what they know under oath and were prepared to appear to set a standard that should apply to all.

The development comes after the House Oversight Committee recommended holding the Clintons in contempt of Congress for declining to testify in person. Such a move could have led to criminal charges if approved by the full House. The Clintons had earlier offered cooperation through sworn written statements but described the inquiry as partisan in nature.

Bill Clinton’s name appears in a recently released set of Justice Department files connected to the Epstein investigation. Clinton has denied any wrongdoing and said he was unaware of Epstein’s criminal activities. He has also not been accused by any of Epstein’s survivors.

Republicans have argued that the Clintons’ past association with Epstein, including Bill Clinton’s travel on Epstein’s private jet in the early 2000s, warrants in-person testimony under oath. The Clintons have submitted written statements detailing their knowledge of Epstein and his associate Ghislaine Maxwell, who is serving a 20-year sentence for sex trafficking.

The Justice Department recently released millions of documents, photos, and videos, calling them the final set related to the Epstein case, as political scrutiny around the scandal continues.
