A 23-year-old Lehigh Acres woman, identified as Esmerelda Cruz, was arrested after dash-cam video captured her rushing at neighbors and brandishing a firearm during a road-rage confrontation on October 26, the Lee County Sheriff’s Office said. Deputies charged Cruz with three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon; the firearm used was later recovered from her home.
The department posted the footage on Facebook. The clip shows a vehicle nearly striking a man walking a dog before stopping. Cruz exits the car carrying a gun and points it at two women at the scene while the man steps between them, shielding the women and pulling the dog to safety. In the recording, Cruz shouts expletives and threatens, “Don’t run in front of my car,” and, “I’ll light your life up!”
Sheriff Carmine Marceno commented that road rage “has no place in Lee County, and won’t be tolerated,” noting the community’s increased traffic. The sheriff’s office says the arrest followed an investigation based on the video evidence; formal booking and court details were not provided in the agency’s post.
The case highlights growing concerns about aggressive roadside encounters and the risks posed when firearms are introduced into heated disputes. Authorities continue to encourage reporting of dangerous driving and confrontations to prevent escalation.
