A violent incident at a university hostel in Russia has left several people injured, raising concerns about the safety of international students.

The attack took place at a dormitory inside the State Medical University in Ufa, the capital of Russia’s Bashkortostan Republic. A teenager armed with a knife entered the hostel where foreign students were staying and attacked residents. Four Indian students were among those injured in the incident.

According to authorities, multiple students suffered injuries before police intervened. During the attempt to detain the attacker, two police officers were also injured. Officials later confirmed that the suspect resisted arrest and inflicted injuries on himself as well. He has since been detained, and an investigation has been launched to determine the motive behind the attack.

The Indian Embassy in Moscow described the incident as unfortunate and said it is closely monitoring the situation. Officials from the Indian Consulate are travelling to Ufa to assist the injured students and coordinate with local authorities. The condition of the injured students has not been publicly detailed.

Eyewitnesses reported panic inside the hostel following the attack, with emergency services rushing the injured to nearby hospitals. Visuals circulating online showed police escorting the accused from the scene amid heavy snow.

Russian authorities have not officially confirmed the attacker’s motive or whether he had any direct connection to the victims. The Bashkortostan region, especially Ufa, is a popular destination for Indian students pursuing medical education, making the incident a matter of concern for the wider international student community.
