Hamas’s military wing has announced that it has lost contact with two Israeli hostages, Omri Miran and Matan Angrest, due to recent Israeli military operations in Gaza City. The group stated that intense strikes in the Sabra and Tel al-Hawa neighborhoods over the past 48 hours are responsible for the disruption.
In a public statement, Hamas called on the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) to withdraw south of Street Eight—a road in Gaza City—and to suspend all aerial operations for 24 hours beginning at 6 p.m. local time. The group claims that such a pause is necessary to attempt the extraction or recovery of the hostages.
This is the first time Hamas has referenced a specific location in relation to the hostages’ whereabouts, marking a notable shift in the group’s public communication. The current status and condition of Miran and Angrest remain unknown.
There has been no immediate response from the IDF or the Israeli government regarding the demand or the hostages’ reported location. Israeli operations in Gaza City have intensified in recent days as part of ongoing military efforts.
