A 67-year-old U.S. citizen was severely injured during a federal immigration enforcement operation in the Old Irving Park neighbourhood of Chicago on Saturday. According to his running club, DWRunning Racing Team, the man was returning home from a long run when he encountered a road blocked by agents from the U.S. Border Patrol.
The club’s post states the agents “threatened to break his window if he didn’t move his car.” Before he had a chance to respond, they allegedly pulled him out of the vehicle, pinned him to the ground, kneeled on his back—even though he did not resist—and caused six broken ribs and internal bleeding.
The operation coincided with a children’s Halloween parade in the neighbourhood, which residents say was disrupted. Witnesses captured video of agents dragging the man amid children in costumes.
In a statement, U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) spokesperson Tricia McLaughlin said the agents were conducting an operation on October 25, 2025, targeting an undocumented individual from Mexico with a prior assault arrest. She added that agents were “surrounded and boxed in by a group of agitators,” that lawful commands were ignored, and to clear the area crowd-control measures were used.
The running club said the incident has triggered an outpouring of support. They added the injured man “is doing as well as can be expected.”
