Iran’s military warned on Sunday that it will strike energy, technology, and desalination infrastructure across the region if the United States attacks its fuel and power facilities.
The Iranian military’s operational command, Khatam Al-Anbiya, issued the warning after US President Donald Trump gave Iran a 48-hour deadline to reopen the Strait of Hormuz. Trump posted the ultimatum on his Truth Social platform, warning that the US will strike and destroy Iran’s power plants, starting with the largest, if Iran fails to comply.
Iran shut the Strait of Hormuz in response to the ongoing war in West Asia, blocking a route that carries a large share of global oil traffic.
Khatam Al-Anbiya said in a statement carried by Fars news agency that any attack on Iran’s fuel and energy infrastructure will trigger strikes on US energy, information technology, and desalination facilities in the region.
The threat follows Iran’s missile strikes on the Israeli towns of Dimona and Arad. The missiles bypassed Israeli air defenses and wounded more than 100 people. Dimona hosts a nuclear facility.
Iran launched the strikes as retaliation for an attack on its nuclear site at Natanz.
Israel and the United States continue to press their military campaign against Iran. Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz said this week that strikes on Iran will escalate as both countries work to remove threats to their security and regional interests.
