U.S. President Donald Trump announced on Saturday (October 4, 2025) that Israel has agreed to an “initial withdrawal line” for Gaza — a step he described as a major advance toward ending the conflict.
Posting on Truth Social, Mr. Trump said the proposal has been shared with Hamas, and that a ceasefire will take effect “immediately” once Hamas confirms its approval. The agreement also includes provisions for a hostage and prisoner exchange, which would begin alongside the first phase of Israel’s withdrawal.
“This will bring us close to the end of this 3,000-year catastrophe,” Mr. Trump wrote, calling the move a critical milestone in the peace process. Earlier, the White House Press Secretary shared a video of Mr. Trump thanking regional partners — including Qatar, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and Jordan — for their mediation efforts.
Describing the moment as “unprecedented,” Mr. Trump praised the unity shown by Middle Eastern nations in seeking to end the war. While specific details of the withdrawal and exchange remain undisclosed, the announcement has raised cautious optimism about a lasting ceasefire in Gaza.
