An Israeli airstrike on the southern Lebanese city of Sidon killed 13 people and injured several others, according to the Lebanese Health Ministry. The strike targeted the Ain al-Hilweh Palestinian refugee camp, a densely populated area near the city. The Israeli military said it hit militants operating in what it described as a training compound used by Hamas to plan and carry out attacks against Israel.

Hamas rejected the Israeli account, stating that the location struck was an open sports field used by camp residents. The group said there were no military facilities in any of the refugee camps in Lebanon and accused Israel of fabricating claims to justify what it called an act of aggression.

Israel maintains several military posts inside Lebanon and frequently conducts airstrikes in southern regions, often saying the targets are linked to Hezbollah or, at times, to Hamas members. These actions continue despite a ceasefire reached last year between Israel and Hezbollah. Under that agreement, Hezbollah committed to keeping weapons out of southern Lebanon, while Israel agreed to withdraw its forces from the area.

The latest strike adds to ongoing instability along the border, underscoring renewed tensions between Israel, Hamas, and armed groups operating within Lebanon.
