The Israeli military announced on Tuesday that it has issued an evacuation order for Yemen’s Red Sea port city of Hodeidah ahead of planned strikes in the area. The move comes amid escalating tensions linked to the ongoing conflict in Gaza.
The Houthi movement, which controls large parts of Yemen, has targeted vessels in the Red Sea, citing solidarity with Palestinians in Gaza. They have also launched missiles toward Israel, most of which have been intercepted.
In response, Israel has carried out airstrikes on Houthi-controlled territories, including key infrastructure such as the port of Hodeidah. This port is vital for Yemen’s import-dependent economy and humanitarian aid deliveries.
Meanwhile, on Tuesday morning, Israel launched a long-anticipated ground offensive in Gaza City. Officials declared that “Gaza is burning,” as residents reported the most intense bombardment seen in over two years of conflict.
The strikes on Yemen’s port mark an expansion of the conflict’s regional dimensions, underscoring growing instability in the Red Sea corridor and beyond.
