King Charles of the United Kingdom has sent a Kadamb tree to Prime Minister Narendra Modi as a birthday gift, the British High Commission announced on Wednesday.
The gesture was described as being inspired by Modi’s ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ (One Tree in Mother’s Name) initiative, which encourages individuals to plant trees as a tribute to their mothers. The initiative, launched earlier this year, has seen wide participation across India, with state governments, institutions, and citizens contributing to tree-planting efforts.
In a post on X, the British High Commission wrote: “His Majesty The King has been graciously pleased to send a Kadamb tree to India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi on his birthday. The gesture, inspired by PM Modi’s ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ initiative, reflects their shared commitment to environmental conservation.”
The Kadamb tree, considered sacred in Indian tradition and often associated with Lord Krishna, is widely valued for its shade and ecological benefits.
The gift comes as India and the UK continue to deepen cooperation in areas such as climate action, sustainable development, and green technology. The exchange also highlights shared priorities in addressing global environmental challenges.
