The Luthra brothers, Saurabh and Gaurav, who fled to Thailand following a deadly fire at their Goa nightclub Birch by Romeo Lane that claimed 25 lives, are seeking anticipatory bail in a Delhi court. Their lawyer, senior advocate Tanveer Ahmed Mir, argued that the brothers are “humans too” and were more than a thousand kilometres away when the incident occurred.

Mir emphasized that the brothers are businessmen, not fraudsters, and provide employment to over 1,500 families across their 40 restaurants. He said their departure from India was for work purposes, not to evade justice, and noted they were facing death threats on social media. The lawyer also argued that liability for the fire should not be equated with intent, describing it as a case of negligence rather than homicide.

The prosecution countered that the brothers booked a flight shortly after the fire and claimed they left on December 6, while records suggest they departed in the early hours of December 7. Photos presented in court allegedly show them smiling and planning a business setup in Thailand, raising questions about their intentions.

The court has reserved its decision on the anticipatory bail petition and may deliver the verdict later today.
