A late-night argument over alcohol consumption turned deadly in Delhi’s Chhawla area, where a 44-year-old woman was killed by her live-in partner, Virendra Singh. Police said the couple had been living together for two years, and frequent disputes arose over money linked to the sale of the woman’s former home. Virendra, 35, had used the proceeds to purchase a new three-storey house in August, while another sum of Rs 21 lakh remained with him, often triggering tension between them.
According to investigators, the argument escalated when the woman tried to stop Virendra from drinking. Intoxicated and enraged, he allegedly pressed his elbow against her neck, leading to her death. After the incident, he called two friends who helped him move the body into his car. They left soon after.
Virendra attempted to drive away to dispose of the body but, heavily drunk, managed to travel only about 100 metres before abandoning the plan. He returned inside, continued drinking, and fell asleep.
The crime was discovered the next morning when a neighbour spotted the woman’s body in the back seat of the parked car and alerted police. Virendra was found asleep inside the house and arrested. Police are now searching for the two friends involved.
