A major cross-sport ownership move may be taking shape as a Manchester United co-owner has reportedly bid to buy Royal Challengers Bengaluru.

Reports indicate that Avram Glazer, co-owner of Premier League club Manchester United, has placed a significant bid to acquire Indian Premier League franchise Royal Challengers Bengaluru. The reported offer stands at around 1.8 billion dollars, making it one of the highest valuations ever discussed for an IPL team.

The timing of the bid is notable, as RCB recently won their first IPL title in 2025. The long-awaited victory boosted the franchise’s brand value and market demand. Following the title win, the current owners are believed to have explored a sale, considering it an ideal moment to assess investor interest.

RCB is regarded as one of the most popular franchises in the league, supported by a large fan base, strong commercial partnerships, and successful men’s and women’s teams. These factors have contributed to intense competition among bidders, with reported valuations ranging from 1 billion to 1.8 billion dollars. Several domestic and international investors are said to be part of the process.

The bid submitted by Glazer is understood to be non-binding at this stage, though it has reportedly been shortlisted for further negotiations. If the deal moves forward, it would include ownership of both the IPL and WPL teams under the RCB brand.

Through his investment firm, Glazer already has exposure to franchise cricket outside India. Acquiring an IPL team would mark a significant expansion of his sporting portfolio and underline the growing global appeal of the league.
