An elderly woman has gone missing from her home in Arizona, prompting a criminal investigation and raising serious concerns about her safety and health.
The woman, aged 84, was last seen on the evening of 31 January after being dropped home by family members following dinner. She lived alone near Tucson and was reported missing the next morning when she did not attend church, which was unusual for her. Authorities noted early concerns because she relies on a pacemaker and requires daily medication.
Investigators later found signs of forced entry at her home, suggesting she may have been taken against her will. Blood discovered on the front porch was confirmed through DNA testing to belong to her. Her doorbell camera was found disconnected, and while movement was recorded at the property shortly after, no video footage could be recovered due to an inactive subscription.
The case shifted from a search operation to a criminal investigation within days. Law enforcement reviewed licence plate data, nearby surveillance footage, and mobile phone tower records. Search teams, volunteers, and federal agencies were initially involved before narrowing their focus to criminal leads.
During the investigation, several media organisations reportedly received messages resembling ransom demands, which were handed over to authorities. One individual was arrested in connection with unrelated messages sent to the family, though officials said these were not linked to other demands. A reward of $50,000 has been announced for information leading to her whereabouts. The investigation remains ongoing as authorities continue to follow multiple leads.
