NASA astronauts aboard the International Space Station are set to carry out two scheduled spacewalks this month as part of routine maintenance and scientific work. The extravehicular activities will take place on Thursday the 8th and again on Thursday the 15th, with both operations conducted outside the ISS.

The first spacewalk will involve Expedition 74 commander Mike Fincke and flight engineer Zena Cardman. The duo will exit the Quest Airlock at 8:00 am EST, or 6:30 pm IST, for a planned six-and-a-half-hour mission. Their tasks include conducting a microbial swab of external station surfaces, inspecting hardware, and completing work linked to newly installed roll-out solar arrays.

As part of the operation, Fincke and Cardman will install a modification kit required for the new solar panels and route cables along the ISS’s port-side truss structure. They will also install jumper cables and photograph station hardware for documentation.

NASA astronaut Chris Williams and JAXA astronaut Kimiya Yui will support the spacewalk by assisting with spacesuits, managing airlock pressurization and depressurization, and monitoring the astronauts’ safety throughout the EVA.

NASA will stream live coverage of the spacewalks on its YouTube channel, Amazon Prime, and NASA+ TV starting at 8:30 pm.
