Nepal’s wave of Gen-Z protests has taken a new turn, with demonstrators proposing former Chief Justice Sushila Karki as the country’s interim prime minister. The suggestion was shared by Raman Kumar Karna, secretary of the Supreme Court Bar Association, who has been in touch with protest leaders. According to Karna, a delegation of protesters plans to meet the Nepal Army chief to formally present the proposal.

The call comes at a time of political uncertainty, as Nepal’s parties and institutions search for a consensus figure capable of guiding the nation through transition and restoring stability. Young protesters argue that the country needs a leader with strong legal knowledge and integrity to safeguard law and order.

Sushila Karki holds a historic place in Nepal’s judiciary as its first female Chief Justice, serving from July 2016 to June 2017. Born in Biratnagar on June 7, 1952, she is the eldest of seven siblings and began her legal career in 1979. She became a Senior Advocate in 2007 before joining the Supreme Court as an ad-hoc judge in 2009, later securing a permanent post in 2010.

For many protesters, her reputation and experience make her the right choice to lead Nepal during this turbulent period.
