Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke with Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani on Wednesday, expressing India’s concern over Israeli airstrikes in Doha. The conversation came a day after the attacks, which raised fears of further instability in the Gulf region.
In a post on X, Modi said he had conveyed India’s condemnation of the “violation of the sovereignty of the brotherly State of Qatar.” He emphasized that India supports dialogue and diplomacy to resolve disputes and remains firmly against terrorism in all forms. “India stands for peace and stability in the region,” he added.
According to the Prime Minister’s Office, Modi also commended Qatar’s role in regional mediation, particularly its efforts to secure a Gaza ceasefire and the release of hostages. Sheikh Tamim, in turn, thanked Modi for India’s solidarity. Both leaders reviewed the progress of the India-Qatar Strategic Partnership and pledged to deepen cooperation across sectors, agreeing to stay in close contact.
The Ministry of External Affairs had earlier voiced “deep concern” over the strikes, urging restraint to prevent escalation. Sheikh Tamim last visited India in February, accompanied by senior ministers and business leaders to strengthen bilateral ties.
