Police activity remains ongoing at a royal residence following the arrest and release of Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor on suspicion of misconduct in public office.
Officers from Thames Valley Police are continuing searches at Royal Lodge in Berkshire, the former home of Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor. The investigation relates to allegations of misconduct in public office connected to his past role as a trade envoy. Searches have also taken place at a property in Norfolk, where he is currently staying, though police say operations there have now concluded.
Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor was arrested earlier in the day and later released under investigation. This means he is not on bail and faces no immediate restrictions, but he may be questioned again or rearrested if required. There is no fixed timeline for investigators to decide whether charges will be brought.
The arrest follows an assessment of a complaint linked to the alleged sharing of confidential material connected to the late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. Andrew has previously denied any wrongdoing in relation to Epstein and has not commented on the latest allegations.
His brother, King Charles III, said the law must take its course and confirmed full cooperation with the authorities. Other senior royals are understood to support this position.
The case has also drawn attention internationally. Donald Trump described the situation as sad when asked about the arrest. Police have stated that no further updates will be provided while inquiries continue.
