Russia’s President Vladimir Putin has given his support to the US plan aimed at ending the war in Ukraine, saying the proposal could form the basis of a final peace settlement. His endorsement adds new weight to Washington’s efforts to push the plan forward.
Earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky warned that the country is facing one of the most difficult periods in its history. He noted that Ukraine risks losing the United States as a crucial partner if it does not engage with the ideas being put forward. The US plan includes terms previously rejected by Kyiv, including ceding some areas that Ukraine still controls.
President Donald Trump has said that Thursday is an appropriate deadline for Kyiv to accept the proposals, increasing pressure on Ukrainian leaders as negotiations continue. The timeframe has added urgency to discussions both within Ukraine and among its international partners.
In a national address, Zelensky said he is working constructively with the US on the proposals, signalling an effort to keep channels open despite the difficult choices ahead. He emphasized that Ukraine remains committed to finding a path that protects its sovereignty while securing long-term stability.
