Parts of Saudi Arabia experienced a rare snowfall this week, covering desert mountains and nearby landscapes in white for the first time in about three decades. Snow fell across several regions, including northern areas around Tabuk, turning the usually dry terrain into striking winter scenery that surprised residents and visitors alike.
The unusual weather event was triggered when a mass of cold air swept over northern parts of the country, causing temperatures to drop below freezing in high-altitude areas. At locations near Jabal Al Lawz and the Trojena highlands, snow settled on rocky slopes and desert plains, creating scenes uncommon in a region known for its hot, arid climate.

People came out to experience the rare conditions, taking photos and enjoying the snow-covered views. In some places, activities such as skiing and playing in the snow were reported as locals embraced the unexpected weather.

This snowfall stands out as a significant atmospheric event because widespread snow across desert and mountain areas in Saudi Arabia is extremely uncommon. The last similar occurrence happened around thirty years ago, making this moment both memorable and historically noteworthy for the region’s weather records.
