Russia says it will send crude oil and fuel to Cuba soon as humanitarian aid amid an escalating energy crisis on the Caribbean island.

Moscow’s embassy in Havana confirmed plans to deliver a batch of crude oil and refined petroleum products to Cuba to help ease severe fuel shortages. The move comes as Cuba experiences a deep energy emergency triggered by a reduction in oil supplies under pressure from the United States.

Cuba has warned international airlines that jet fuel will be unavailable for at least a month, leading to flight cancellations and adjustments by carriers including Canadian and Russian airlines. This has forced some operators to evacuate tourists and suspend scheduled services.

The Kremlin has criticised U.S. measures that have contributed to Cuba’s fuel crisis, accusing Washington of attempting to “suffocate” the island’s economy through restrictions on oil imports. Russia has pledged support to both Cuba and Venezuela, which have historically relied on external oil supplies.

The Russian embassy also said it is working with Aeroflot and Cuban aviation authorities to organise safe return flights for Russian nationals in Cuba. Meanwhile, Russia advised its citizens to reconsider travel plans to the island due to the “fuel emergency.”

Cuba’s energy problems have led to rationing measures and disruptions in public services as the government navigates the crisis amidst tightening international pressure.
