Joint military strikes attributed to the United States and Israel hit a major natural gas facility in southern Iran on Wednesday, according to Iranian state media. The attack reportedly caused a fire at the site, prompting an emergency response.
The strikes targeted infrastructure within the South Pars Special Economic Energy Zone, located in the coastal city of Asaluyeh. State television cited provincial official Ehsan Jahanian, who described the incident as an attack carried out by what he called the “American-Zionist enemy.”
The South Pars gas field, part of the world’s largest natural gas reserve, plays a central role in Iran’s energy production and export capacity. Its strategic importance has made it a focal point in regional and international energy considerations.
Authorities reported that firefighting and emergency teams were rapidly deployed to the facility to contain the blaze and evaluate the extent of the damage. No immediate information was released regarding casualties or operational disruption.
The incident underscores ongoing geopolitical tensions in the region, particularly surrounding energy infrastructure and security, though independent verification of the strike details remains limited.
