India captain Suryakumar Yadav has dismissed concerns over Abhishek Sharma’s form, urging calm as the team prepares for the Super 8 stage of the T20 World Cup 2026.

Speaking ahead of India’s Super 8 match against South Africa in Ahmedabad, the captain said the team management is not overly concerned about Abhishek Sharma’s lack of runs in the tournament so far. The young opener has recorded three ducks in three matches and is yet to score in the competition.

Suryakumar stated that form slumps are part of the game and stressed that Abhishek is trying to play according to the role assigned to him. He added that when a player with Abhishek’s ability clicks, the impact can be significant, and the team is prepared to support him if things do not go his way immediately.

Abhishek Sharma missed one group-stage match due to illness but returned to the playing eleven despite his struggles. Despite his lean run, India won all four of their group-stage matches and entered the Super 8s unbeaten.

The captain also indicated that Abhishek is likely to retain his place in the team for the crucial phase of the tournament. Team officials have echoed similar views, underlining their confidence in his ability to deliver when it matters most.

India will face South Africa at the Narendra Modi Stadium on February 22, marking the beginning of a decisive stretch in their T20 World Cup campaign.
