Iran Fires Cluster Bomb Missile at Tel Aviv Area, Injuring at Least 10 on Day 23

Iran launched a ballistic missile carrying a cluster bomb warhead at central Israel on March 22, 2026. The missile scattered bomblets across the Tel Aviv area, injuring at least 10 people and damaging homes and roads across multiple impact sites.

Emergency rescue services confirmed the injuries across several bomblet impact sites in Tel Aviv and surrounding areas. Rescue teams responded to multiple locations where submunitions struck roads and homes. Workers recorded damage across the zone, with the number of casualties expected to rise as teams continue to search impact sites.

Iranian cluster warheads carry approximately 24 submunitions, each containing 2–5 kilograms of explosives. The warhead breaks apart at an altitude of 7–10 kilometers above the ground, creating dozens of separate impact sites. Each submunition detonates on contact with the ground or a hard surface.

Israeli military spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Nadav Shoshani acknowledged that air defense efforts have had results but remain imperfect. Defense analysts note that cluster missiles must be intercepted above the atmosphere, as far as possible from the target area. Once the cluster bombs release within the atmosphere, interception becomes impossible.

Iran has launched more than 100 cluster missiles at Israel since the start of the conflict. At least 11 cluster missiles have penetrated Israel’s air defense system without interception.

The Tel Aviv strike came hours after Iran launched ballistic missiles at the southern Israeli cities of Dimona and Arad overnight. The Home Front Command confirmed that nearly all those injured in both cities were not inside bomb shelters at the time of impact. In Dimona, the missile struck soft ground next to homes, with the shockwave damaging surrounding buildings and injuring around 30 people. In Arad, the missile landed between several apartment buildings, injuring nearly 90 people, including 10 in serious condition.

The United States conducted strikes on Iran’s Natanz nuclear facility on March 21. Iran launched the Dimona and Arad attacks in direct response, stating it targeted the Shimon Peres Negev Nuclear Research Center. Iran also attempted to strike the joint US-UK military base at Diego Garcia in the British Indian Ocean Territory. One missile broke apart mid-flight and a second was intercepted by an SM-3 air defense system.

Israelis Take to Streets in Tel Aviv, Demand End to Iran War

Israelis gathered in Tel Aviv on Sunday to protest the war with Iran and demand the government stop the conflict, as missile attacks continue to force civilians into shelters across the country.

Protesters accused the government of prolonging the war without a clear plan or defined objectives. Demonstrators also called for an end to the conflict with Hezbollah.

The protest comes as the human cost of the war mounts. At least 18 people have died in Israel since the war began, and more than 3,000 have sustained injuries. Millions of Israelis continue to shelter from ongoing missile attacks.

Protesters said the government has given no timeline for ending the war and no clear goals that would signal when the fighting would stop. Many called for a diplomatic solution as military strikes between Israel, the United States, and Iran escalate into their fourth week.

The Tel Aviv demonstration is part of a wider wave of protests against the conflict. People have taken to the streets in Europe, the United States, and across the Middle East, with many groups calling for a ceasefire and a reduction in military action.

The protest stands in contrast to statements from Israeli officials. National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir and Defense Minister Israel Katz both called on Israel to press forward this week and said the military will not stop until it achieves all its objectives.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has not indicated any plan to wind down operations.

Video: Iran Fires Cluster Missiles at Tel Aviv in Retaliation for Larijani Killing

Iran struck Tel Aviv with cluster warhead missiles overnight, killing two people near Israel’s commercial centre, as the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps carried out what it called retaliation for Israel’s assassination of security chief Ali Larijani.

The IRGC said it deployed Khorramshahr-4 and Qadr missiles — both carrying multiple warheads — alongside Emad and Kheibar Shekan projectiles in what it designated the 61st wave of Operation True Promise 4. The Corps said it struck over 100 targets across Tel Aviv. Shrapnel hit a rail station, forcing Israel’s rail operator to halt services. Air raid sirens sounded across central Israel during the attack.

Iran’s new Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei rejected ceasefire proposals conveyed to the foreign ministry, stating it was not “the right time for peace” until the US and Israel “accept defeat and pay compensation.”

The strikes followed Israel’s killing of Larijani on Monday night, which also killed his son Morteza and deputy Alireza Bayat. Iran confirmed the deaths Tuesday, hours after initially denying them.

The conflict continued to spread. Israel struck Beirut’s Bachoura neighbourhood on Wednesday, killing at least six people and wounding 24 others in the Lebanese capital alone. Separate strikes across southern and eastern Lebanon killed 14 more. Iran also executed Kurosh Keyvani, convicted of supplying Israel’s Mossad with information on sensitive locations inside Iran.

A projectile struck near the Bushehr nuclear power plant Tuesday evening, causing no damage. The IAEA called for restraint to avoid a nuclear accident.

The death toll in Israel from missile strikes since the war began on February 28 now stands at 14.
