Trump Says U.S. Has Held Talks With Iran But Fate of Khamenei Remains Uncertain

U.S. President Donald Trump has stated that the United States held talks with a top Iranian official while uncertainty over the condition of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei persists.

Trump said the U.S. spoke with Iran’s top respected leader, signalling that communication between the two sides has taken place despite the tension surrounding Iran’s leadership situation. He did not disclose the identity of the official or the nature of the discussions.

He added that Washington has not received any communication from the son of the Ayatollah, indicating that direct contact with the Khamenei family has not been established.

“We have not heard from Ayatollah’s son,” Trump said.

Trump expressed a desire to resolve the situation through dialogue rather than escalation. He said the U.S. hopes to settle the matter, suggesting that his administration views a negotiated path as the preferred outcome.

“We hope to settle this,” he said.

At the same time, Trump confirmed that the condition of Khamenei remains unclear. He said no one has seen the Iranian leader since reports of an air strike injury emerged, and that his administration cannot confirm whether he is alive.

“We don’t know if he is living,” Trump said.

The remarks point to a fluid situation in which the U.S. maintains back-channel engagement with Iran while the status of its leadership remains unconfirmed. Analysts and governments continue to monitor the situation as no official statement from Iranian authorities has addressed the reports directly.
