U.S. President Donald Trump has issued a Sunday evening deadline for Hamas to accept his proposed peace plan for Gaza, calling it the group’s “last chance.”
In a message posted on Truth Social on Friday, Trump stated: “An agreement must be reached with Hamas by Sunday Evening at SIX (6) P.M., Washington, D.C. time. Every Country has signed on! If this LAST CHANCE agreement is not reached, all HELL, like no one has ever seen before, will break out against Hamas.”
The 20-point proposal, announced Tuesday, includes an immediate ceasefire, the exchange of all hostages held by Hamas for Palestinian prisoners in Israeli custody, a phased Israeli withdrawal from Gaza, disarmament of Hamas, and the establishment of a transitional government led by an international body.
Hamas is currently reviewing the proposal, according to a source close to the group. The disarmament condition may prove a sticking point, as the group has consistently rejected such demands in the past.
Trump emphasized that the plan had been endorsed by multiple international actors and warned of unspecified but severe consequences if Hamas fails to comply by the deadline.
