US President Donald Trump delivered a combative and wide-ranging speech to House Republicans, mixing domestic political anxieties with sharp attacks on Democrats, detailed claims of a US military operation in Venezuela, and pointed remarks on global leaders, including India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Speaking for more than 85 minutes at the newly renamed Trump-Kennedy Center in Washington, Trump addressed lawmakers, party leaders, and senior Republicans on politics, trade, military power, and culture.

A central theme of the speech was Trump’s concern over the 2026 midterm elections. He openly warned that losing control of Congress would expose him to impeachment efforts by Democrats. Trump said that even policy achievements would not protect him if Republicans fail to retain power, portraying Democrats as unified and aggressive. His remarks came amid growing Democratic criticism of his actions, particularly US military involvement in Venezuela, which some lawmakers have described as unconstitutional.

Trump devoted significant time to describing what he called a complex and historic military operation in Venezuela. He claimed the mission involved extensive air and ground assets, resulted in no US casualties, and caused heavy losses on the opposing side. Trump also alleged that the operation triggered a nationwide power blackout in Venezuela, presenting it as a tactical and psychological success.

The president mocked Venezuelan leader Nicolas Maduro, accusing him of violence and torture, and ridiculed protests against the operation as staged and funded. He also attacked protesters in New York and dismissed critical media coverage, reinforcing his confrontational tone throughout the speech.
