Ukraine has claimed responsibility for a strike on Russia’s Kirishi oil refinery in the Leningrad region, a key facility supplying fuel to both civilian and military sectors. The Ukrainian military announced on Saturday that its forces had carried out a precision attack targeting the plant, though details of the method used were not disclosed.

The Kirishi refinery, one of Russia’s largest, processes around 20 million tons of crude oil annually and plays a significant role in Moscow’s energy exports. Russian officials have not yet confirmed the extent of the damage, but local reports suggested that emergency services were deployed to contain fires and assess potential risks to surrounding areas.

The strike marks another escalation in Ukraine’s campaign to hit Russian energy infrastructure deep inside its territory. Kyiv has repeatedly argued that such attacks are aimed at disrupting Moscow’s war effort and limiting fuel supplies for the Russian military.

In recent months, Ukraine has intensified cross-border operations, using drones and long-range weapons to target refineries, military bases, and logistics hubs. The attack on Kirishi underscores the widening reach of Ukrainian strikes and signals Kyiv’s determination to bring the war closer to Russia’s strategic assets.
