US Vice President JD Vance has defended himself against criticism following remarks about his wife Usha Vance’s faith. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Vance clarified that his wife “is not a Christian and has no plans to convert,” calling the backlash to his comments “disgusting.”
The controversy began after Vance said during a discussion that he would like if his Indian-origin wife, who was raised Hindu, converted to Christianity. He added that she often accompanies him and their children to church, as the children are being raised in the Christian faith.

Responding to a user who accused him of “throwing his wife’s religion under the bus,” Vance shared a three-part clarification. He said the question about his interfaith marriage came from a member of the public and, as a public figure, he chose not to avoid it.

Vance credited his wife for encouraging him to reconnect with his faith years ago, noting that their relationship embodies mutual respect despite religious differences. He also condemned what he described as “anti-Christian bigotry,” stating that sharing one’s faith “is a completely normal thing.”

The Vice President’s remarks have sparked renewed debate over religion and interfaith relationships in American public life.
