Tension was reported on Friday in the Bodhjungnagar area of Tripura after local residents stopped eight gas tanker trucks that had entered India via Bangladesh. The incident took place under the jurisdiction of the Bodhjungnagar police station, where a group of residents gathered and raised slogans opposing Bangladesh while blocking the movement of the vehicles.
According to security officials, the gas tankers were carrying fuel that originated from Russia and transited through Bangladesh before entering India. Their intended destination was the Indian Oil Corporation bottling plant located in Bodhjungnagar. Authorities stated that the transport was part of a legal and approved commercial supply chain.
Police and security forces were deployed soon after receiving information about the obstruction. Officials engaged in discussions with the local residents to explain that the tankers were not linked to any unlawful activity. After intervention by the administration, the situation was brought under control without reports of violence or damage.
The incident is believed to be linked to recent strain in India-Bangladesh relations, which has contributed to heightened sensitivity in border areas. Following the episode, local authorities ordered increased vigilance in the region. Police have stepped up monitoring and patrols to ensure the smooth movement of essential supplies and to maintain law and order in the area.
