Video: Iran Releases Video of Supreme Leader Khamenei Amid Health Speculation

Iranian state media released an undated video of Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei teaching religious science to a group of students, in what observers say is an attempt to counter speculation about his health and whereabouts.

Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB) posted the clip on X, describing it as footage of Khamenei delivering religious instruction. The broadcaster did not provide details on when the video was shot, raising questions about whether it was an archived recording.

Khamenei, 56, took over as Supreme Leader after US-Israeli strikes killed his father, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, on February 28. He has stayed out of public view since the war began, fuelling speculation about his condition. Reports claimed he suffered injuries in the strikes that also killed his wife and child. US media reported he may be in a coma. A Qatari media outlet claimed he traveled to Moscow for treatment.

A leaked audio recording cited by The Telegraph suggested Khamenei stepped out of his residence moments before the strikes.

Trump publicly questioned Khamenei’s condition last week, stating that nobody had confirmed he was healthy and that his absence was unusual.

Despite his absence, Khamenei issued statements calling for national unity and warning that Iran would keep the Strait of Hormuz closed. On Wednesday, he published a message on his Telegram channel stating that those responsible for the death of security chief Ali Larijani “will have to pay for it.”
