At Least Nine People Killed in Turkey’s Second School Shooting Within Two Days as Authorities Investigate Back-to-Back Attacks and School Safety Concerns Rise Nationwide

At least nine people have been killed in a school shooting in southeastern Turkey, marking the country’s second such attack in just two days, according to officials. The incident occurred at a secondary school in the Kahramanmaraş province and left several others injured, some in critical condition.

Authorities said the attack was carried out by a student who opened fire inside the school before dying at the scene. The victims included both students and a teacher, while emergency services transported the injured to nearby hospitals for treatment. Officials have launched an investigation into how the suspect obtained the weapons used in the attack.

The shooting follows a separate incident the previous day in Şanlıurfa province, where a former student opened fire at a vocational school, injuring multiple people before killing himself. Together, the two attacks have raised concerns over school security and access to firearms in Turkey.

Local authorities have described both incidents as isolated acts, with no immediate indication of coordination or wider militant involvement. However, the back-to-back nature of the shootings has prompted national debate over safety measures in educational institutions.

Turkey has experienced relatively few school shootings in recent years compared to other countries, making the recent events particularly shocking for the public. Officials have stated that additional security precautions will be considered, though specific measures have not yet been announced.
