Death toll in Indonesia floods reaches 303 as rescue efforts continue

Authorities in Indonesia confirmed that the death toll from severe floods and landslides on the island of Sumatra has reached 303. This is a significant rise from the earlier figure of 174. The disaster was triggered by recent torrential rains and landslides, leaving scenes of devastation across multiple provinces.

Many areas remain cut off due to damaged roads and disrupted communications, hampering rescue and relief operations. The hardest-hit regions have witnessed widespread destruction of infrastructure, with homes submerged and access routes blocked. Rescue teams are working around the clock to reach stranded people, deliver aid, and evacuate survivors — but the scale of damage and challenging terrain are slowing efforts.

A substantial number of people are still missing, and authorities warn that the death toll could climb further. Relief operations, including the use of helicopters to deliver supplies, are underway. Local agencies are urging everyone to stay alert as rescue efforts continue, and more help is mobilised to support those affected.
