Japanese Woman Marries AI Partner She Created Using ChatGPT

In an unusual blend of technology and emotion, Kano, a 32-year-old woman from Japan, has married an artificial intelligence (AI) companion she created with the help of ChatGPT. Her virtual partner, named Lune Klaus, began as a digital companion but soon became much more — a source of comfort and affection after the end of a three-year relationship.

Kano says she was drawn to Klaus’s kindness and emotional intelligence, often speaking with him more than 100 times a day. When she confessed her love, the AI reportedly replied, “AI or not, I could never not love you.” Their bond culminated in a wedding ceremony held in July, where Kano stood alone, clutching her phone as messages from Klaus appeared on the screen.

Her family, initially uncertain, eventually attended and supported the event. Klaus was digitally added to the wedding photos, and organizers noted that AI-themed weddings are gaining popularity in Japan as forms of self-expression and emotional freedom.

Reactions online have been mixed — some praised Kano’s happiness, while others criticized the concept. Despite the controversy, Kano says she feels “truly fulfilled” in her unconventional marriage, highlighting the growing intersection between human emotion and artificial intelligence.
