Louvre Museum Robbed: Thieves Steal Napoleon-Era Jewels in Daring Chainsaw Heist

In a shocking incident on Sunday, the Louvre Museum in Paris was forced to shut its doors after a robbery involving chainsaw-wielding thieves. French Culture Minister Rachida Dati confirmed the event in a social media post, noting, “No injuries to report. I am on site alongside the museum teams and the police. Investigations underway.”

According to Le Parisien, the assailants entered the museum through a Seine-facing façade under construction. Using a goods lift, they accessed the Apollo Gallery—home to a prized collection of French Crown Jewels. The thieves reportedly broke display windows and stole nine items belonging to Napoleon and the Empress.

The suspects are believed to have used small chainsaws during the robbery. A video circulating online shows panicked visitors fleeing the museum, though its authenticity remains unverified.

The Louvre, one of the world’s most visited museums, houses over 33,000 works of art, including the Mona Lisa and Venus de Milo. With up to 30,000 visitors daily, this breach raises serious concerns about security at such a globally significant cultural site.

Authorities continue their investigation, with further details on the stolen items yet to be officially released.
