Modi and UAE President Strengthen Ties on Defence and Nuclear Energy

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan held productive talks on Monday at 7 Lok Kalyan Marg, underscoring their commitment to enhancing bilateral cooperation across a range of sectors, including defence, nuclear energy, infrastructure, and emerging technologies. The meeting, which involved discussions in both restricted and expanded formats, focused on regional and global issues of mutual interest.

A major highlight of the discussions was the joint condemnation of cross-border terrorism. Both leaders reaffirmed their resolve to combat terrorism in all its forms, signaling strengthened cooperation on security matters. The visit, described as “short but extremely substantive” by Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, lasted around three hours and also saw the participation of key members of the royal families of Dubai and Abu Dhabi.

Key outcomes included the signing of a Letter of Intent aimed at advancing a strategic defence partnership between India and the UAE, along with agreements to enhance bilateral cooperation in civil nuclear energy. Both nations agreed to explore advanced nuclear technologies, including large reactors and small modular reactors, as well as strengthening safety protocols and nuclear plant operations.
