Netanyahu to Speak With Lebanese President, Israeli Official Says

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is expected to speak with Lebanese President Joseph Aoun, according to an Israeli government official.

Gila Gamliel, a member of Israel’s security cabinet, said the conversation would take place, speaking to Israel’s Army Radio on Thursday.

However, a Lebanese official told Reuters that the Lebanese government has no information about any planned contact between the two leaders.

If confirmed, the communication would mark a rare direct interaction between senior leaders of Israel and Lebanon, countries that do not have formal diplomatic relations.

The development comes amid ongoing conflict between Israel and Hezbollah and parallel diplomatic efforts involving the United States to reduce tensions in the region.

There has been no official confirmation from the Israeli prime minister’s office or the Lebanese presidency regarding the reported call.
