North Korea Displays New Hypersonic Glide Vehicle and ICBMs at 80th Workers’ Party Parade

North Korea showcased new advanced weapons during a military parade on Friday, marking the 80th anniversary of the ruling Workers’ Party of Korea. Among the featured arsenal were the Hwasong-11Ma hypersonic glide vehicle and the Hwasong-20 intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM), described by state media as the country’s “most powerful nuclear strategic weapons system.”

The parade took place overnight in Pyongyang’s Kim Il Sung Square and displayed a wide range of North Korean military capabilities. This event follows closely on the heels of leader Kim Jong Un’s recent visit to Beijing, where he attended a major Chinese military parade alongside Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Kim’s trip to China reinforced strategic ties with his country’s primary political and economic ally, resulting in a renewed friendship and increased momentum for North Korea’s missile and nuclear weapons programs.

The display of these new weapons underscores Pyongyang’s ongoing focus on advancing its military technology amid heightened regional and global tensions.
