Israel has intensified its military offensive in a border town in southern Lebanon ahead of upcoming United States–hosted talks aimed at addressing the ongoing conflict with Hezbollah, according to reports. The operation is focused on securing control of the strategically important town of Bint Jbeil, a known Hezbollah stronghold near the Israeli-Lebanese border.
Israeli military officials stated that they expect to gain full operational control of the town within days as part of a broader campaign to weaken Hezbollah’s presence in southern Lebanon. The offensive includes air and ground operations, with Israeli forces targeting militant positions, weapons storage sites, and infrastructure used for cross-border attacks.
The escalation comes just before planned diplomatic talks in Washington involving Israeli and Lebanese representatives, which are expected to focus on reducing hostilities and exploring potential security arrangements along the border. Lebanese officials have indicated that they will use the talks to push for a ceasefire and long-term stability in the region.
Fighting between Israeli forces and Hezbollah has intensified in recent weeks, with both sides exchanging rocket fire, artillery, and drone strikes across the border area. The conflict has resulted in significant casualties and displacement in southern Lebanon, raising international concern over civilian safety and regional stability.
Humanitarian organizations have also expressed concern about the impact of the ongoing strikes, particularly following reports of damage to medical and humanitarian facilities in the region.
The situation remains highly volatile, with analysts warning that continued military escalation could complicate diplomatic efforts and further delay prospects for a ceasefire agreement.
