Tel Aviv — Israeli military spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Nadav Shoshani told reporters on Tuesday that Israel stands ready to continue striking Iran for weeks. He said the military has identified targets, stockpiled munitions, and deployed the manpower to sustain the campaign, but emphasised that the decision to keep operating belongs to political leaders, not the armed forces.
The statement comes one day after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the war had passed the halfway point in achieving its objectives, without setting a date for its conclusion. Shoshani’s remarks signal that the Israeli military does not face resource or readiness constraints that would force a pause, placing the choice to escalate or de-escalate entirely in the hands of Netanyahu’s government.
The US-Israel campaign against Iran entered its second month on March 28. Strikes have hit nuclear infrastructure in Isfahan, missile production sites, naval assets, and ammunition depots across Iran. Israel has simultaneously fought Hezbollah in southern Lebanon, where the military reported four soldiers killed in combat on Tuesday, bringing the total troop deaths in that theatre to ten.
Iran continues to hold the Strait of Hormuz closed, and has struck back with drone and missile attacks across the Gulf. A drone hit a Kuwaiti oil tanker at a Dubai port on Tuesday. Drone attacks also struck Amir Sultan Air Base in eastern Saudi Arabia, which hosts US forces.
The April 6 deadline for a US-Iran deal now sits less than a week away. Iran rejected the US proposal and submitted a counter-proposal. With Israel signalling no intent to stand down and Iran holding its position, both sides move toward the deadline without an agreement.
