In a major overnight assault, Russia launched a large-scale air attack on Ukraine early Wednesday, resulting in widespread power outages, extensive damage to infrastructure, and the deaths of at least six people, including a six-month-old baby, according to Ukrainian authorities.
The attack, which involved drones, missiles, and fighter jets, targeted multiple regions, including the capital Kyiv. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that both energy facilities and civilian areas were hit, condemning the lack of international pressure on Russia for prolonging the war.
“Another night proving that Russia does not feel enough pressure for dragging out the war,” Zelensky said on X.
In Kyiv’s Dniprovskiy district, two people were killed and 10 others rescued after drone debris struck a high-rise building, sparking a major fire. In the Brovary district east of Kyiv, a woman, a 12-year-old girl, and a six-month-old baby died after their home caught fire due to the strikes.
Ukraine’s energy provider Ukrenergo imposed emergency power cuts across most of the country. DTEK, Ukraine’s largest private energy company, reported significant damage to its facility in Odesa.
Just hours before the strikes, Ukraine had used Storm Shadow missiles to target a Russian chemical plant in Bryansk.
