Trump and Egypt’s Sisi Co-Chair Gaza Summit, Hailed as Key Peace Brokers

U.S. President Donald Trump landed in Egypt on Monday to co-chair a high-level summit on Gaza alongside Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi. The meeting, held in the resort city of Sharm El-Sheikh, brought together over two dozen world leaders and international organizations to discuss the path forward following the recently brokered ceasefire in Gaza.

Trump arrived directly from a visit to Israel, marking a significant day of diplomacy focused on ending the long-running conflict and stabilizing the region. Egyptian President Sisi praised Trump’s leadership, telling him during a joint appearance:

“I was sure you were the only one, Mr. President, who can end this war… the only one capable of bringing peace to our region.”

In return, Trump highlighted Egypt’s critical role in the ceasefire negotiations, particularly its influence on Hamas.

“He played a very important role… Hamas respects this country, and they respect the leadership of Egypt,” Trump said, referring to Sisi as “very instrumental” in the peace efforts.

The summit underscores the growing role of regional powers in facilitating dialogue and the U.S.’s renewed diplomatic push under Trump to broker lasting peace.
