Trump Announces 10-Day Israel-Lebanon Ceasefire

U.S. President Donald Trump announced that Israel and Lebanon have agreed to a 10-day ceasefire, marking a potential pause in weeks of escalating conflict between Israeli forces and the Iran-backed group Hezbollah. The ceasefire is expected to begin at 5 p.m. Eastern Time, although the exact start date was not specified.

According to Trump, the agreement followed discussions with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Lebanese President Joseph Aoun. He described the talks as productive and said the temporary truce is intended to create conditions for broader peace efforts in the region.

The ceasefire comes after more than six weeks of fighting that began in early March 2026, when Hezbollah launched attacks in support of Iran during a wider regional conflict. Since then, Israeli airstrikes and ground operations in southern Lebanon, along with rocket fire into northern Israel, have caused significant casualties and displacement.

Despite the announcement, uncertainty remains over the implementation of the ceasefire. Previous diplomatic efforts have faced challenges, and Lebanese officials have at times expressed caution regarding direct coordination with Israel.

Trump said senior U.S. officials, including Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio, would work with both sides to extend the truce and pursue a more lasting agreement.

Analysts note that while the ceasefire could reduce immediate violence, its success will depend on compliance from all parties and progress on broader political and security issues in the region.
