WhatsApp, the widely used messaging app owned by Meta, is reportedly testing new limits on messages sent by businesses and individuals to unknown recipients to reduce spam and clutter. As the app has grown more complex with features like communities and groups, users have increasingly faced overwhelming notifications and unwanted messages from unknown contacts.
According to a recent TechCrunch report, WhatsApp will implement a system where all messages sent to recipients who haven’t yet replied will count toward a new messaging limit. For example, if a user sends three messages without a reply, those count against the limit, restricting further messages until a response is received.
WhatsApp is currently experimenting with different limit thresholds and has not publicly confirmed the exact number. When a sender nears the messaging cap, they will receive a warning on their device indicating they can no longer send additional messages until the recipient responds.
This change aims to make WhatsApp more intuitive and user-friendly by giving users better control over incoming messages and reducing spam from businesses and unknown contacts.
