The bodies of Russian crypto blogger Roman Novak, 38, and his wife, Anna, 37, have been recovered in the United Arab Emirates, marking a critical development in a complex case involving alleged kidnapping, torture and murder. The couple went missing in early November after traveling to Hatta, southeast of Dubai, to meet supposed investors. Investigators believe they were lured to a rented cottage, forced to reveal access to their crypto wallets, and then killed. Their families reported them missing several days after their disappearance.

Novak, who previously served prison time in Russia for large-scale fraud, had relocated to the UAE after parole and launched a crypto app named Fintopio. Though he attracted significant investment, he later faced accusations of defrauding backers. Russian investigators say the couple’s remains showed signs of severe torture, reportedly inflicted to extract wallet passwords. Their bodies were found sealed in plastic bags soaked with chemical solvents.

UAE intelligence efforts led to the arrest of three Russian suspects — including a former criminal investigator and two members of a special operations unit. Two confessed, directing authorities to a desert site where the remains were discovered. The alleged organizer, Konstantin Shakht, has denied all charges and may face life imprisonment.
