France, UK to Host Conference on Hormuz Shipping Security

France and the United Kingdom will co-host a video conference on Friday to discuss maritime security in the Strait of Hormuz, according to a statement from the French president’s office.

French President Emmanuel Macron and UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer will co-chair the meeting. The conference will include countries willing to contribute to what officials described as a “purely defensive mission” aimed at securing the waterway.

The discussions will focus on a plan to restore freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz when security conditions permit. The initiative comes amid ongoing tensions in the region and concerns over the safety of commercial shipping routes.

Officials stated that the proposed mission would prioritize defensive measures and coordination among participating countries. Further details regarding participating nations and operational plans were not disclosed.

The Strait of Hormuz remains a key global shipping route for oil and gas supplies. Recent developments in the region have increased focus on ensuring the safe passage of vessels through the corridor.

The conference reflects continued international efforts to address maritime security concerns and maintain stability in critical trade routes.
