A gunman was shot by police following a hostage situation at Patong Prathan Khiriwat School in Thailand on Wednesday evening, according to police.
The incident occurred in Hat Yai district, Songkhla province, near the Malaysian border. As students were leaving school, the unidentified gunman opened fire, injuring multiple individuals, including the school headmaster. Several students and teachers were taken hostage, but all hostages were safely freed. The gunman was subsequently detained after being shot by the authorities.
Deputy Superintendent Wichian Soboon confirmed the arrest of the gunman, but no official reports have confirmed any fatalities. According to police, the headmaster of the school was reportedly shot, and a security guard was grazed by a bullet. Footage from the scene showed hundreds of students fleeing the school grounds as armed police arrived. Special forces were quickly deployed, and the school was cordoned off to control the situation.
Rescue teams evacuated those still present on the campus, while the public was urged to avoid the area for safety. The quick response from law enforcement ensured the peaceful release of all hostages without further casualties.
